What Are You Reading?

http://www.vapld.info/kids/books-and-reading
This week tell us a little about the book you are reading. This will be a great opportunity for us to check out new titles and see if there is something new we might want to look into reading. Give us as much detail as you wish but try to write at least three sentences. Be sure to capitalize the first letter of each sentence and end each sentence with a period, exclamation point, or question mark, whatever is correct. And, always capitalize the letter "I" when referring to yourself.

Tell us about the book you are reading now. What do you like or not like about it? Is it funny, adventurous, mysterious? Who is the main character? Would you like that character to be one of your friends? Why or why not? Would you recommend this book to one of your friends?

Time for the Super Bowl

This weekend is one of the biggest sporting events of the year - The Super Bowl. Even if you are not a big football fan, a lot of people watch the Super Bowl to see a great half-time show (Katy Perry) or watch some very fun commercials. Do you plan to watch the game? If so, which team will you be rooting for?

The Super Bowl has a very long history. This is the 49th year the game has been played. Click here to see some information on past games. Look over that information and come up with a question for your friends from the information provided.

Here is my question:

Which team won the Super Bowl by the most number of points?

http://www.milkandcookiesblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/07/united_states_map_with_capitals.jpg

There are so many interesting places to visit. In our area we live very close to the Pennsylvania state capital of Harrisburg, which is a beautiful building.

How many other states and capitals do you know? Click on this link to see a larger version of the map above.

See if you can learn three new states capital every day. Write about two that you would like to visit and tell us why you might like to visit them.

Pennsylvania Farm Show

http://pda.state.pa.us/AgPhotoGalleryPublic/FileViewer.aspx?MOID=20849&Type=Optimized

This week is the Pennsylvania Farm Show, which is one of the biggest events held in Pennsylvania each year. The picture above is this year's butter sculpture. I wonder how many slices of toast that sculpture would butter!

The farm show is such fun. Not only is there the butter sculpture and so many wonderful animals to see but there are also lots of fun things to learn and do. The food court is pretty amazing with all sorts of good things to eat.

My very favorite part is to see the alpacas. They are such sweet creatures and have adorable faces.

Have you ever been to the Farm Show? Check out some of these pictures from this year's farm show. Tell us what you think would be the most interesting part of it for you and why you would enjoy it.

Setting New Goals

Every January 1 people usually set some new goals for themselves! Have you set any this year? It is important that the goals be very specific if you are really to achieve them.

For example, it is a good goal to say "I am going to read more." However, it is a better goal to say "I am going to read 10 minutes a day as soon as I get home from school." Can you see why the second goal is stronger than the first?

Here is another example. A good goal is "I will help out more around the house." But a stronger goal is "I will make my bed as soon as I get up in the morning."

How can you make your goals more specific? Share with us one or two things you hope to achieve in the new year!

Snow, Thumbs Up or Thumbs Down?

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/7/72/Snow_Scene_at_Shipka_Pass_1.JPG/800px-Snow_Scene_at_Shipka_Pass_1.JPG
It is now December and the weather folks are starting to predict snow. Do you like snowy, cold weather? What do you do when it is freezing, windy, and snowy outside? Do you like to be outside playing, or skating, or sledding? Or, do you prefer to be inside watching the snow while drinking a cup of hot chocolate? What are your plans if we have a very snowy winter?
