Let's Check Out Some Animals

I love to learn about animals and am always amazed at some of the things about them I do not know. Check out this page on the National Geographic Kids website. Take some time to learn about a new animal you never heard of before.  Write a paragraph of at least three full sentences telling us something interesting about the animal you chose. Be sure to take some time to read about what your classmates wrote as well.

  3. The most surprising animal I found is the Lion. The males often stay with the pride for only two to four years, while the females stay with the pride for life. Often they go off on their own or are evicted by other males who take over the pride. These are the surprising things that I learned about Lions.

  5. I read about an animal that lives in very cold weather. Tt is the Polar bear. Did you know that the Polar bear lives in the Arctic? It also eats seals.I t also protects its cubs for 2 and a half years. I think that Polar bears are very interesting animals you should learn about them too.

  8. An interesting animal that I learned about was the Indian Peafowl. Here's a fact about the Indian Peafowl. The peacock struts his stuff in a colorful display to catch the eye of a potential mate. Another fact is that the males are called peacocks and females are called peahens. Together they are peafowl. Peafowl are among the largest of all birds that fly. Those are some interesting facts about a Indian Peafowl.

  9. The Fennec fox is really interesting. The Fennec fox has ears six inches long. The Fennec fox is the smallest fox. The fennec fox weighs 2.2 pounds. The fennec fox lives in the desert.

  11. My animal that I am doing is Galopagus Tortoise. The biggest one ever recorded measured across it's shell was five feet 1.5 meters long and weighed about 550 pounds. These tortoises can grow to 100 years old. That's the animal I picked.

  12. Hey want to learn more about Adelie penguins? Adelie penguin builds nests by scooping out areas in the ground. These groups of young Adelie are called creches.An Adelie penguin colony can be made up of 100 to 250,000 pairs of birds.

  13. This is some interesting things about Pandas. What is really interesting is that they mostly eat bamboo shoots and leaves. Occasionally they eat vegetation, fish,or small animals. Only about 1,000 Pandas survive out in the wild. Pandas eat up to 12 hours a day. That is some interesting facts about Pandas.

  14. An awesome animal is the Cheetah. An awesome fact about the Cheetah is it can run up to 60 or 70 miles. Next, the Cheetah chases his prey down at only half the speed it can run at. Last, the Cheetah has excellent eyesight! I love learning about the Cheetah.

  15. The animal that I choose is the African Elephant. The African elephant is the biggest kind of elephant. The African Elephant weighs 11 tons. It is bigger than the Asian elephant. That is the animal I choose.

  16. The anamal that I looked up is celled the Brachychampsa Montana. It's mouth is big with little teeth but a lot of little teeth in the Brachychampsa Montana big mouth. The first alligotors evolved over 245 million years old. The Brachychampsa Montana is extinct because it's a dinosaur. I hope you learned about the Brachychampsa Montana

  17. I choose the was a Bullfrog I leaned some cool facts about the Bullfrog. they hidernate when its cold. They hidernate in the mud. You can tell if its a frog or a toad. The American Bullfrog can reach eight inches and 20 centimeters. Sometimes the bullfrog goes in the water.

  18. Indian Peafowl the Peacock struts his stuff in a colorful display to catch the eye of a potential mate.The Peafowl is one of the largest animal to fly.The feathers grow on the Peafowl's back not its tail.Also the Peafowl has from 100 feathers to 150 feathers.

  19. I never heard of Belugas before. There the smallest type of whale. They also like to spend lots of time up on the serfas. When Belugas are five years old they start to turn white. That's what I learned about Belugas.

  20. I choose the Indani peafowl.The peafowl is 15 feet tall. They live up to 20 years old.Femals do not have long tail feathers. Peafowls are very big braids. A peafowl group is called a party. Peafowl has a loud screeching call.

  21. This new animal I learn is a tiger. What I learned about the tiger is that it is the largest wild cat in the world. Here is another information about the tiger that it weighs 720 pounds. Tigers also wait until dark to hunt. Well, tigers have been know to eating up 60 pounds.

I chose the blue footed Booby.I learned that male blue-footed boobies strut about with exaggerated movements that show off their fabulous blue feet.Females tend to pick the males with the bluest feet as their mates.On average, a blue-footed booby lives 17 years in the wild.(Females have blue feet, too, but the males' are more striking, especially when they're ready to breed.) The males do all they can to make sure females notice their feet.male and female boobies dance together by pointing their bills upward in the air, as the male spreads his wings and whistles. The male often brings nesting material to the female as part of the mating ritual. However, the pair doesn't make much of a nest. The female simply lays one to three eggs in a depression in the ground.Blue-footed boobies live and nest in colonies, or large groups. A pair of boobies generally raises more than one brood a year. A large colony of blue-footed boobies is constantly bustling, busy, and noisy.

    Both parents care for their eggs, taking turns keeping them warm and safe. They use their feet to cover the eggs to keep them warm.I hope i get to learn more about the blue footed Booby.

  23. The animal i looked up is called the bactrain camel.The bactrain camel has two thumbso carry the fat.The thumbs on the bactrain camel look like a big glob of bones.Also the bactrain camel has a diferent face than a normal camel.The bactrain camel has the weirdest name for an animal

  25. Queen Snake here are is one thing it eats crayfish. Here is were it lives small rivers and in but most it prefers a streams. The queen snake an attractive snake. It lives in the U.S.in P,A. But it remembers as the willow snake or the leather snake.

  26. The animal I looked up is the Caribou. The Caribou is kind of like a reindeer. In Europe they call the Caribou, reindeer. When snow begins to fall, Caribous move to the south and travel to more sheltered climes where they can feed on
    moss lichens. Female Caribous are called cows. Caribous
    migrate over 1,600 miles each year. They weigh from 240 to
    700 Ibs.

  27. I chose the Beluga Whale. The Beluga is one of the smallest specise of whale. Their distinctive color and prominent foreheads make them easily identiflable. Unlike most other whales, the Beluga has a very flexible neck that enables it to nod and turn its head in all directions. Those are facts of the Beluga whale.

  28. The animal that I found is the stingray. A stingray is a fish. It is related to a shark. A stingray also has no bones. For stingrays to swim they have to move there hole body. Some stingrays have venom. That's what I learned about stingrays.

  30. I look at the bullfrog. It hibernates in the could.It hibernates in mud. It reaches 8 in an 20 cm.It kind of sounds like a bull to me.

  32. The animal I chose is the Praying mantis. The praying mantis got its name because when it is hunting it looks like it is praying. Praying Mantis is helpfull to farmers. They do have wings. I like Praying Manteses.

  33. Im going to tell you about Harp Seals.Did you know that Harp seals can live to be 30 years old in the wild.And that they can grow to be 6.25 feet (1.9 meters)long.+ Females are a little smaller than males.

  34. I choose the african Elephant. I like it because i like the trunk. It weighs much more than i do. I find the afircan elephant to be very interesting. I would love to see one in real life.

  35. I chose a harp seal.Thease sleek swimmers hunt for fish and crustaceans at 300 feet and may dive to nearly 1,000 feet. They are able to submerged for up to 15 min. The pups dont have any bluber at birth,but quickly gain weight nursing on heigh-fat mothers milk. The pups go without food for about 6 weeks and can lose about half their body weight until they dive in and begin to hunt for themselves.

  37. The interesting animial I chose is the Ankylosaurus Magniventris. These dinosaurs were the prehistoric tanks of their time. It was covered with hard boney plates. Rows of spikes ran along Ankylosaurus's body and small horns adorned it's head.

  38. One interesting animal is the bull shark . The bull shark is the most dangerous shark in the world. The way it got it's name is it head-butts it's prey before it eats it. They are very aggressive.

  39. The ladybug ther is a bout 5,000. Difrent ladybugs in the world. One ladybug can eat up to 5,000 in its life time. The ladybug is cool looking it lays up to 1,000 eggs a day It has 10 spots on it.
