George Washington fire engine. Unusually interesting to visitors to Alexandria, Va., is this fire engine purchased by George Washington in 1775 at Philadelphia and regarded at the time as the most efficient type of engine. The engine is still in good condition and reposes in the headquarters of the Friendship Fire Company in the old Virginia city where the Father of Our Country was an active member of the fire fighters in his day. G. William Humphries, present custodian of the fire house, is shown in the photograph, 3/6/31.
Fire trucks certainly have changed a lot over the years! Firefighters work very hard and have very dangerous jobs.
Besides fighting fires, there are many other dangerous jobs people do. Can you think of one? Write about what you think that job may be and what is dangerous about it. Let's see who can come up with the most unusual dangerous job!
Cliff divers have extremely dangerous jobs. Cliff divers are people who literally dive off of cliffs into fairly shallow water. So...I've seen it on TV and have seen a diving show on a cruise ship where the diver was approximately 40 feet above the pool he dove into. It looked so, so, so, so easy. The people I have seen made it seem graceful and simple. However, I wonder, how you get to the point of trying to jump off a cliff? What would happen if you slipped? Or, what would happen if you ween't as skilled as you thought you were trying the dive for the first time? What if the bottom of the water was rockier than you expected? Thinking that it could be extremely dangerous. So, although it provides onlookers with entertainment, it seems like it would not really be worth the risk involved.
ReplyDeleteThe job I think is the most dangerous job is working in the army because everyone on the team that were fighting wants to get you I'v watched the army channel on TV a lot and people get trapped people die and its really sad people drown and lots of other things that are dangerous. also it is dangerous for the other team to.
ReplyDeleteI think boxing is dangerous because some boxers slam chairs on each other and get badly hurt. I also saw a famous boxer get married and theirs a gang that goes into boxing rings and punches the boxers that are fighting until they fall down.As I was saying when they were about to get married the boxers best friend said surprise and then he and the gang beaten all of the people in the ring even the bride. That scared me and thats how boxing is

I think think that gymnastics is a dangerous career because you could fall and hurt yourself in a number of ways. You could fall and break your arm, your leg and a lot of other bones. It takes a lot of strength, flexibility, concentration, and practice to get it done correctly and safely.
ReplyDeleteI think rugby is a dangerous job because people wear no protection for there head. A lot of people have concusses. Rugby is kinda like football except they throw they ball and do not stop the game when your on the game. I'm wondering why people play when they are going to get hurt? Why do people play this game? Why do they not stop the play when your on the ground?What if the ground is harder than they thought? This game has some great teams that I would like to be onto but I would not like not having pads not on.

I wonder what would happen if a solder was really really new? I wonder what would happen if they did not have any weapons? I wonder what would happen if they were missing a part of there body? I wonder what would happen if they were autistic?I think that is a really dangerous job
ReplyDeleteI think one of the most dangerous job is someone who work on the electric poles and the electric lines because I think someone could get electrocuted and really hurt them selves. One day I my dad actually saw someone working on the electric lines and poles because they tried to fix the power during a big storm. It was still storming when the were working. The man forgot to put on hid hand gear, and electrocuted his own hands. I cannot believe that happened. People actually like the job, but I don't!
ReplyDeleteThe job that I think is the most dangrous is being a profennial boxer because if you get hit hard enough, you can get knocked out. Also you can easilly break a bone by getting hit too too hard. I'm also thinking about an astornaut because if you go to the moon your rocet can run out of fuel and you will be trapped on the Moon. Another reason is that if you are in 0 gravity you could bump into a wall and hurt your head and get a concussion. also you might fall out of the rocket. :-D I wonder how astornauts survive in space.
ReplyDeleteI think that gymnastics is dangerous. I think that it is dangerous because you can end up braking you arm or leg or even any thing on your body. Well it is only dangerous if you are in the more advanced levels. Some of the advanced level are level 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 and10. In level 5 there is a double back handspring. In level 6 there is a front tuck, back tuck and a back walkover on the beam. And it goes on and on and on of the dangerous things that can happen if you are in the more advanced levels.
ReplyDeleteI think Hockey is because when you get checked you can get an concussion or brake a bone. Once I saw a player in a penalty box and this fan jumped over the board and started to tackle the player in the penalty box. Then the player in the penalty pushed the fan onto the ice. The point of me saying that was to show you being a player or fan it is still dangerous.
ReplyDeleteI am thinking of a dangerous sport. I am thinking of cheerleading. I know it is a dangerous sport because I read it in a news article and I do it. Cheerleading is a dangerous sport because you can break bones and you can have concussions. Also you can pass out. You can hurt yourself a lot of times. Once I saw a girl pass out on the floor during the routine that she was doing. It was scary because the girl did not wake up for awhile . But a little later she woke up. The college teams that are more skilled make it look so easy to do the skills that they do. I wonder if a person could get paralyzed from getting hurt.

ReplyDeleteI think the most dangers job is when you have to fix wires because if you are not warring winter gloves you will get a very very bad electric shock that will almost kill you. Also if you are warring safety gloves you will only get 5% to get very very bad electric shock that will almost kill you. :{

ReplyDeleteA dangerous job I'm thinking of is ice skating because you can fall hard and break your bones, pass out, you could get a concussion or you could get stitches just because you fell. I read a book saying that you can get bloody noses. When I had a class I fell and slammedmy head against the wall, so I got a concussion. I also got a cut on the side of my head. (My glasses broke as well) I wonder what other things that could happen if you fall during a ice skating.
ReplyDeleteI think the US Army Members have dangerous jobs because they risk their lives for the safety of the United States of America. I am related to a couple of US Army veterans such as my Grandpa, Great grandpa and my Great Great Uncle. A lot of things could go wrong if you are part of the Army like if you and your squad get surrounded in a building or if your friend gets injured in a battle or if you get cornered and they take you in as a prisoner. Anyhow you still are serving your country and if it wasn't for the US Army there would be slaves because the South would have won the Civil War, the South wouldn't even have to fight because the US Army wouldn't be there to fight. BYEEE!!!!!

What if you did not know how to fly it you would be toast. Building eqitment is hard to do but it is easy to get heart. It looks fun to be a astronaut but a dangerous job to do as a job. I would NOT wont to be a astronaut because how dangerous it is.

ReplyDeleteThis is what all I can think of dangerous jobs that people can do. I think that driving a big ship is dangerous. Why I think driving a big ship is dangerous is because you could bump in to something. Another dangerous job that people can do is going in the water and swimming in there for many minutes. The reason why I think that is a dangerous job because you may run out of breath and pass out. That is why I thing those dangerous jobs are very very very dangerous. Those are some dangerous jobs that I can think of.

ReplyDeleteI think being a Alaskan fisherman is dangerous because it sometimes makes it hard because it can get very windy and the waves can be huge. Pulling up the nets and cages can weigh hundreds of pounds. I also think a pilot is dangerous. I think it is dangerous because if something goes wrong thousands of miles up in the air. You could crash into a sea. There could be bad weather. Those are some jobs I think are dangerous.

ReplyDeleteA dangerous job is a logger. There are many things that make being a logger dangerous. For instance a tree could fall on them when they were trying to cut it down. Another reason is they could get hurt by the saws they were using. Also, when they are climbing the trees they could fall. My last reason is that they could get hit by logging trucks or by big logging equipment. Those are the reasons why I think being a logger would be dangerous.

I think the soldiers in the Army is a dangerous job because you may die because all the guns that the other team are going to shoot at you. I have another reason. My second reason is that you may replace one of your legs with a robotic leg. My third reason is that you might travel far from where you live and might miss your family. A cross guard is a dangerous job because you can get hit by a car. Another dangerous job is a spy because you can get kidnap't if you not careful. ReplyDeleteI think being a lifeguard is a dangerous job. Its dangerous because if someone needs help and there's a shark and you go rescue the person that needs help you could get bitten by a shark. If your not too careful. Lifeguards are people that rescue people in water. Another reason being a lifeguard is dangerous because there could be sharks during rescuing somebody. Also you could drown if you go to far to rescue a person. You could also drown if your not a good swimmer. That is why I think being a lifeguard is a dangerous job.

Another reason mining can be dangerous is because you can slip on a part that is wet. And that is another reason why mining can be dangerous. And that is why I think that mining can be dangerous.
ReplyDeleteI think it is dangerous being a zookeeper. Being a zookeeper is dangerous because that you have to feed animals and some of the animals could be dangerous. The second job I think is dangerous is being a marine biologist. I think being a marine biologist is dangerous because that when you are trying to find new species underwater you run out of oxygen in your oxygen tank. Being a police is also dangerous because they have to catch criminals, and criminals can be dangerous at times. Those are the the jobs that I think that are dangerous.

Another resaon is because you could get shot down by enemy planes. It is also dangerous because you might miss the landing because the aircraft carrier moves up and down. You could also run out of gas. Also your engen could over heat. Those are some resaons that being a fighter piolt is dangerous.
