The first Veteran's Day was held on November 11, 1919 and was originally called Armistice Day. The name was changed by Congress to Veteran's Day in 1954. It is a national holiday set aside to honor all people who have served our country in any branch of the military. Veterans and their families make many sacrifices to protect us. It is important that we honor them every day, but especially on Veteran's Day.
The Bill of Rights, which is the first ten amendments to the Constitution, gives us our basic rights and freedoms as Americans. Check out the Bill of Rights here and then select one and write a few sentences about why that right is important to you.
I would have to choose Amendment two. This is important to me because me and my dad love to hunt and I don't want the government to come to my house and take our guns.Good thing that it is on the Bill of Rights.;)

ReplyDeleteMy amendment is number 2. It guarantees Americans to bear arms, or own guns. Imagine if that was not an amendment nobody, nohow would be able to own guns. Nobody would be able to hunt anything. No police would be able to carry guns. They would not be able to protect you very well.

DeleteI chose Amendment 3. It is important to keep soldiers from using peoples homes as military bases. It is important because, that could be taking away peoples homes, and the military cant take away their homes. That is why it is important to not have soldiers using homes as military bases.

DeleteThere are ten rights to choose I choose the fourth one. The forth amendment says the forth amendment protects the privacy of American citizens. It prohibits or prevents unnecessary or unreasonable searches or of a person property. This is important to me because it helps me understand a lot of difrent thing

Freedom of speech is important too because it gives me the right to share what I think is right. Veteran's Day is an important day to me because my Dad serves in the United States Coast Guard.

ReplyDeleteI understand that members of the Armed Forces fight to protect our freedoms. One freedom that I am thankful for is the right to free speech. This means that I can share my opinions without worrying about getting arrested. For example, when the president makes a statement that I don't agree with,it's okay for me to share that. If the president says something that I am in favor of, it's okay for me to say that too. My voice can be heard without me getting into trouble. I know that is not the case in other countries and am grateful it true here.

I don't know what the bill of rights means but I do know that veterans show great respect to the U.S.A . So think that all veterans should be treated with great respect because they showed great respect and also because they still do.

ReplyDeleteI understand that people all over e country in armed forces are working hard to keep our country safe and to keep our freedom and I am thankful for our freedom and not to have slavory and I am also thankful for the right to free speech and if you don't know what that is well slavory is when white people buy black people to work for them and they do not treat them well and the right to free speech mean that you can share your opinions. Veterans Day is a day to be thankful for the people who keep our country safe.
