Olympic Medals

In every Olympics the number of medals won by the different countries is tracked. It is always interesting to follow that and see which countries lead. It is also interesting to see in which sports the different countries excel. Click here to see the medal results of the 2010 Winter Olympics. This same link will give you the results of the 2014 Olympics when they are available.

Take a look at how this is set up. Notice you can view the results of only the 2010 games or the over all results from all the years. You can see them by sport and you can also view them by the medal type - gold, silver, bronze. You can even view the results as a graph.

After you take a few minutes and become familiar with how the site works, post a math problem based on the information for your classmates to solve. Let's see who can challenge us the most! Here is an example:

In 2010, the United States added four medals to its all-time standings in freestyle skiing. How many medals did the United States in freestyle skiing before the 2010 Olympics?
